The output capacitor i.s part of the regulator's frequency compen- .sation system. Many types of capacitor.s are available, with different capacitance value tolerance.s, capacitance temperature coefficient.s, and equivalent serie.s impedances. For all operating condition.s, connection of a 220pF aluminum electrolytic capacitor or a 47pF .solid tantalum capacitor between the output terminal and ground will guarantee .stable operation. If a bypas.s capacitor i.s connected between the output voltage adjust (ADJ) pin and ground, ripple rejection will be improved (plea.se .see the section entitled "RIPPLE REJECTION"). When ADJ pin bypassing is used, the required output capacitor value increase.s. Output capacitor value.s of 220pF (aluminum) or 47pF (tantalum) provide for all ca.ses of bypas.sing the ADJ pin. If an ADJ pin bypa.ss capacitor is not used, smaller output capacitor value.s are adequate. The table below.show.s recommended minimum capacitance values for .stable operation. |
